I slowly turned my back away from him. I shut my eyes tight.
One, two, three…
I counted my steps as I walked. I feel light headed, as if I’m stepping on eggshells.
“Goodnight,” he called out.
I paused. Clenched my fists.
Fought the urge to turn around.
My heart thumped with a deafening cry that seems to threaten my ribcage. My legs shook, that seem to give way any moment under the weight of my entire being.
I cannot turn back. I cannot.
I continued walking.
Those steps were the hardest steps I have walked in my life.
